030 Lab receives €500,000 for innovative research
The 030 Lab at the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital (WKZ) has received funding from the Elise Mathilde Fund Foundation. They are spending this money on follow-up research on children and young people treated for a variety of chronic conditions within the WKZ.
Within the 030-Lab, scientists conduct research to gain insight into long-term consequences of chronic conditions. Research is currently ongoing on cystic fibrosis, infectious diseases, juvenile rheumatism, rare diseases and neonatology. The 030 Lab also investigates the disease-transcending consequences of chronic conditions, such as (limitations) in various areas of participation in sports and play, education and schooling, nutrition, sleep and fatigue. To this end, researchers bring together all regional expertise in data collection on physical and mental development of children and adolescents. State-of-the-art equipment and research techniques are used. The 030-Lab consists of a trial office and the Child Health Disease Cohort. There will also be a prevention desk within the 030-Lab.

In addition, a data infrastructure was set up for both existing care and research data and new data to be generated across disease groups. Associated activities include harmonisation of research cohorts, cleaner patient record exports (HIX) and a WKZ broad consent for participation in research.
