Most Utrecht University buildings closed during Christmas holiday
From 21 December to 5 January, most university buildings will be closed. A couple of buildings will stay open for students and staff who would like to study or work during the holiday period.
Background
Sustainability is high on the agenda of the UU. Minimising the energy consumption is an important step towards reducing our CO2 emissions. During the end-of-year holidays, occupancy in many buildings is low. By temporarily closing most buildings, we avoid unnecessary consumption of heating, lighting and ventilation systems.
In addition, as a university, we will need to make substantial savings. By temporarily closing buildings, we save on energy and on facility service costs.
Open buildings
On 25 and 26 December and 1 January, the University Library City Center is open from 10am-6pm. All other buildings are closed during those days. On 23, 24, 30 and 31 December and 2 and 3 January, the following buildings are open:
- University Library City Centre (see website for opening hours)
- Vening Meinesz Building B (8am-5pm)
- Vening Meinesz Building C (7am-5pm)
- College Hall (8am-5pm)
- Androclus Building (8am-7pm)
- The veterinary clinics
- University Museum (see website for opening hours).
Research
For research buildings, the current weekend and holiday arrangements will continue to apply: authorised persons can enter the laboratories with their campus card, based on the working alone arrangement (where relevant).
