WKZ week came to a festive close with FC Utrecht
For years, FC Utrecht and the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital ('WKZ') have nurtured a special bond, and last week the long-awaited 'WKZ week' was back on the agenda. This special week, in which FC Utrecht players, trainers and staff dedicated themselves to the children in the WKZ, was full of heart-warming moments.
On Tuesday 30 January, an FC Utrecht delegation visited the WKZ, with players, trainers and staff members taking ample time to meet the brave children. Pictures were taken, high-fives were handed out and even a game of football was played.
The highlight of the 'WKZ week' took place on Sunday 4 February, renamed 'Kids Day', when the children of the WKZ attended FC Utrecht's home match against FC Volendam as true VIPs. The children and their parents/carers enjoyed a ride in the players' bus from the WKZ to stadium 'de Galgenwaard' and were allowed to watch the match from the skyboxes.
Besides the unforgettable experiences, FC Utrecht also staged several actions during the 'WKZ week'. FC Utrecht players wore special shirts designed by children at the WKZ. These unique shirts are currently being auctioned on the MatchWornShirt website, with all proceeds going to Friends UMC Utrecht & Wilhelmina Children's Hospital, the children's hospital charity. You can bid for these special shirts via this site.
In addition, special tickets were made available for UMC Utrecht/WKZ staff and a special WKZ grandstand area was set up. Visitors were welcomed with banners made by children from the WKZ, thanks to a special banner campaign organised by FC Utrecht in cooperation with HORNBACH. Thanks to their support, a renovated FC Utrecht skybox was also realised in the WKZ last week, with new playing materials for children and a fresh look.
The premier league match ended in a 4-2 victory for FC Utrecht, thanks in part to a hat-trick by Taylor Booth, making the 'WKZ week' another unforgettable experience. The beaming faces of the children show how valuable this special bond between FC Utrecht and the WKZ really is.
