Interview with Jonathan Robinson

Name, position and organization

My name is Jonathan Robinson, I am the CEO of Polpharma Biologics Utrecht B.V., previously called Bioceros. In the beginning of 2020 I joined the company, relocating from the UK.

What does Utrecht Science Park mean to you and to Polpharma Biologics?

Polpharma Biologics is a globally leading Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization. Our Utrecht hub is at the basis of all innovation and the development of biosimilars for our projects.  Here in Utrecht, our staff of 50 people focus on the development of production cell lines for monoclonal antibodies and other proteins, as well as the generation of New Biological Entities.

Utrecht Science Park plays an instrumental role in meeting our objectives. It allows us access to the best talent and great partners for collaboration. Although we operate worldwide, some of our clients are residing here as well. This important role of Utrecht Science Park was recognized by Polpharma. Their acquisiotion of Bioceros, now Polpharma Utrecht Biologics B.V., is testament to that.

What is Utrecht Science Park’s impact on society? And what role do you (or Polpharma Biologics) play in this?

In these times, I cannot stress enough the importance of R&D and collaboration between educational & research institutes and biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. This is exactly what I see happening on Utrecht Science Park. As a fully integrated CDMO we take it upon ourselves to provide cost-effective and timely solutions for biopharmaceutical development programs.

To put it simply, we support in bringing new drugs to market more quickly. Great ideas are turned into reality on Utrecht Science Park, I hope we can continue to contribute to that for a long time.

What is your personal dream within your role? What do you want to achieve (with Polpharma Biologics) in the next 5–10 years?

It would be great to be able to further establish our company as a household name, we’re definitely on a path towards that. Having said that, on a more personal level I experience a lot of joy in working with all these talented young scientists and technicians that bring in the best ideas to further the development of our company. It’s my mission to continue to foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, exchange of ideas, an make Polpharma an even better place to work than it already is.
