Cycling for cancer research
From 4 to 6 March, Utrecht Marketing and NBTC were present at ITB Berlin, the leading trade fair for the global travel industry. This year's theme was cycling. And of course Utrecht, as number 1 cycling city in the world, was present.
On the exhibition floor, visitors were invited to cycle a lap at the Utrecht Marketing stand: for every kilometer cycled, NBTC and Utrecht Marketing donated to charity. The end result? 300 kilometers cycled yielded €1,500 for cancer research at UMC Utrecht.
The backdrop for the cycling campaign featured a photo of the world's longest rainbow bike path at the Utrecht Science Park, where a QR code provided more information about cycling in Utrecht and UMC Utrecht's research. For example, it was previously known that exercise has a positive impact in the treatment of breast cancer. The study (PREFERABLE-EFFECT) was coordinated by the Julius Center of the UMC Utrecht. It showed that patients with metastatic breast cancer suffer less from their disease and the side effects of their treatment if they engage in physical training. Among other things, they are less tired, and they have less pain and better stamina. As a result, patients experience a better quality of life.
