Stem Cell Donor Recruitment Day, powered by the TxMiller Foundation

On 19 September, TxMiller is organising the annual Stem Cell Donor Recruitment Day at the Utrecht Science park.

As a stem cell donor, you can save a life!

For a patient with leukaemia or other form of blood cancer, a stem cell transplant is often the only chance of a cure. Unfortunately, a patient cannot receive stem cells from everyone. This is because the tissue typing (HLA) of the donor must match that of the patient as much as possible. The chance of such a match is very small. Even within one's own family, there is only a 30% chance of finding a suitable donor.

A patient is therefore mostly dependent on an unknown donor from the global pool of potential stem cell donors. There are currently 41 million people around the world registered as stem cell donors, some 415,146 of them in the Netherlands. But this number still does not provide a suitable donor for every patient.

Want to know more about stem cell donation?

In September, stem cell donation is in the spotlight during Matchis Foundation's ‘Stem Cell Donor Week’ (16-22 September) and WMDA's ‘World Marrow Donor Day’ (21 September).

During the month of September, the TxMiller Foundation will be present on location at the Utrecht student sports associations Orca, Triton, SPIN Boardsports, Softijs and De Domrenner. There will be cooperation with student associations, sports centre Olympos and Stadsschouwburg Utrecht to give the subject a stage.

Stem Cell Donor Recruitment Day on 19 September

On 19 September, TxMiller will organise the annual Stem Cell Donor Recruitment Day at the Utrecht Science park. On this day, TxMiller wants to create awareness about the importance of stem cell donation and encourage young, fit people to register as stem cell donors through Matchis Foundation.

To achieve this, the programme will include an inspiring webinar that will feature conversations with a donor and former patient. This webinar will go live on 19 September next at 12.30pm. For more information and registration, visit the website.

TxMiller will also be present with stands at the HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht on this day to engage with students about stem cell donation.
